Spotlight On…Cana, Receptionist

In my sluething journalism, I’ve uncovered some sweet, some smarmy truths about the folks behind your glittering Rhinestone Unlimited packages. Who are these people on the other side of your order, really? I’ve dug deep with scrutinizing questions, and quote the workers in their own words [with some spelling and grammatical corrections. Also, I have interjected my own comments in brackets]. Read on, dear readers- the sublime exposés will shock and intimidate! Hey you in the booth- turn that spotlight on…

…Cana!Cana

Nicknames:  Canie, Cain-Train, Bean, Sassy Pants, Bobanze, Spanarkle.  I will also answer to Canna, Tina or Gina when people don’t understand how to pronounce Cana.  (It rhymes with Dana.)

Number of years at Rhinestones Unlimited: 3

Favorite movie about stones: Center Stage or Drumline.  I realize the cheese factor in both, don’t judge.  Or, the Fifth Element.

Movie you think could use more sparkle: Anything with Melissa Joan Hart.  Needs more anything.

Your position at Rhinestones Unlimited: Receptionist  [with four Et Ceteras after it]

Your area of expertise in the rhinestone universe: Recreational dancer, Floral & Theater Costume Designer with a degree in Fashion Design

Favorite rhinestone-related adjective: Multifaceted

Pet Peeve:  The word “goblet”

Best words of rhinestone wisdom:  Rhinestones don’t have to be sweet- find the funkier side of embellishment

How to calm a rhinestone emergency:  Breathe.  Stay open-minded. Remember it’s just rhinestones.

Don’t be afraid to try:  Chocolate-covered potato chips  [or, chocolate-covered anything, in my opinion]

Current color of your toenails, matched to a stone color:  Preciosa Hyacinth AB

Activity you would like to try in the rhinestone world: Swimming in a Scrooge McDuck-sized bin of costumes: dance theater, Cirque du Soleil, Alice in Wonderland, ice skating, you name it…

The hot forecast- the next big rhinestone market:  Roller girls.  They can kick some tail and look good doing it.  Talk about multifaceted.

Favorite thing about being based in MN: It’s rich in nature, clean, green and not crowded.  No one else realizes it is incredible!  My theory is, these Minnesota winters keep the riff-raff out.  [well, now you’ve given away the secret…]

Current drink of choice:  Whiskey on the rocks.  My appreciation for it will come, in time.  Until then, I’ll wash it down with a root beer float or juice box.

In-house product you think is underrated:  Preciosa, baby.  What a gleam, what a price.

The current song playing in your head: MJ’s “Blame It On the Boogie”  [that’s Michael Jackson, not Michael Jordan, note]

Three things still on your bucket list: Become fluent in French and ASL, dance on pointe, master a Bond-quality getaway

Three things you’ve already crossed off: I can ride a skateboard, I can bellydance, I’ve been to the Southern Hemisphere

Favorite thing about Rhinestones Unlimited: When the block’s power went out, they took us all out for breakfast.  Though they do really big work, at heart, Rhinestones Unlimited is a small, family-owned company and each individual is appreciated.

Ryan Gosling, hot or not?  Of course I’ll forever think him cute, I’ve seen The Notebook.

Revealed!  Cana, like Dana: the multitasking, multi-hat wearing face behind the glass, and hero to our local customers.  It’s not non-partisan, but it has been suggested (by me, here, now) that Cana may just be my personal favorite here at RU…More heavy-hitting journalism to come, stay tuned…
